Welcome to Milestone’s first product update of 2021! This time is all about adding clarity, simplifying compatibility, and improving control over your VMS. XProtect 2021 R1 introduces:
Improved Situational Awareness
2021 R1 extends its Smart Map capability by adding five new features, allowing operators to see the whole picture.
Add Alarms - Milestone has taken Smart Map one step further by showing operators when and where alarms are triggered.
Add Microphones - Operators can now also listen to audio from the location directly from the Smart Map and thereby reduce time to action.
Add Input Devices - Smart Map can now display and receive data from input devices such as door sensors and doorbells directly on the Smart Map providing the operator with an even better overview.
Get the Best Overview with Device Clustering - Smart Map’s new device clustering feature automatically groups map items for a better visual overview. This is especially useful for installations with many floors and multiple connected cameras and devices.
Easy Start-Up with Milestone Map Service - Smart Map now includes an embedded Milestone Map Service. This map service comes on top of existing support for paid online map services like Google and Bing Maps.
Shorter Recording Server Start-Up & Repair Time
Recording servers are no exception. Crashing media databases, incorrect system shutdowns, or even misfortunate accidents can all lead to corrupted media files. Corrupted media files are files containing video and audio that were not written successfully to the disc, meaning video and audio that cannot be used. XProtect automatically checks of these issues and repairs corrupted files when necessary, however, rebuilding that data and starting-up the Recording Server takes time during which access to recordings might be limited.
XProtect 2021 R1 focuses on efficiency and supports a continuous operation by cutting down the Recording Server start-up and repair time by up to 50% so you can minimize downtime and return to work as quickly as possible.
Camera and Device Flexibility
Regular device firmware updates are an integral part of keeping installations safe and well-functioning. But executing these updates is a tedious task. In this release, Milestone helps operators gain back precious time with the ability to update device firmware directly in XProtect.
With Milestone, security professionals already have a wide range of integration options. Now, this flexibility is extended to include integrations for more multi-channel devices such as encoders and NVRs with more than 16 channels or large-scale body worn systems.
The cap on supported channels has skyrocketed to 512, giving professionals more freedom of choice. This is a vast improvement from the 16-channel limit for ONVIF and the 64-channel limit for the Universal Driver.
Improved User Experience
Operators can now rank Search results by relevance, with the most relevant results listed at the top. This new function helps users quickly find results that best match their search parameters and instantly find what they are looking for.
The new recording timeline in XProtect Mobile is enhanced with an enlarged preview image when users scroll the timeline. This larger preview makes it easier to see footage and locate a relevant video sequence.
Other Improvements
Reduced Licence Administration - As business grows, enterprises that consist of several affiliated companies sometimes need to administrate and manage hundreds of Software License Codes (SLCs) for their XProtect VMS. The End User License Agreement (EULA) for XProtect 2021 R1 simplifies the license administration for such affiliated companies. It allows the user of XProtect VMS product (XProtect Corporate, XProtect Expert, and XProtect Professional+) to grant access to and permit the use of the product by its affiliated companies. This means that a single SLC can be used to deploy XProtect VMS across several affiliated companies, where each deployment gets its share of the total number of purchased device licenses.
Improved Licence Model - The required number of device licenses will now be determined by the number of enabled channels. This ensures the correct number of licenses are issued and provides more flexibility in the licensing model.
Get the Best Overview from 360 Degree Video - With this update, Milestone has made it possible to configure the adjustment of each camera’s field of view (FOV) to optimize the dewarping algorithm and allow XProtect to support dewarping in even more 360-degree cameras. A new view layout control plug-in also allows for improved management of how the dewarped images are displayed in the XProtect Smart Client. The new plug-in is called Milestone XProtect 360º Split View Plugin and is available on Milestone Marketplace.
